Waffle Flower had an awesome Spring release in February. They had 24 stamp sets and 30 new dies, 11 of which are stand alone dies. That's quite the release! I picked up 4 of the stamp sets and one of the stand alone dies. There are 4 season stamp sets and thanks to Amy at Prairie Paper & Ink I picked up 3 of the 4. I also got the Jungle Birthday stamps and the Grid Panel die set which are what I will be showcasing today. These little monkeys are adorable and the grid die is fantastic!
Today's card was a deisgn I cased from Nichol Spohr. Nichol always does amazing work and I love her YouTube videos. If you haven't checked her out click her name to go to her blog and see how wonderful she is. Her original card was a lighter green and had an hombre effect to it. I decided I wanted to go more vibrant and add some of the other little characters from the set as well
I started with a piece of Bristol Smooth cardstock and inked it up with Twisted Citron and Mowed Lawn Distress Inks. I sprayed it with some water droplets and used a paper towel to blot it and remove some of the color. While that was drying I stamped and colored all my images with Copic Markers. I used the coordinating dies to cut them out and went back to my background piece.
I die cut the inked piece of cardstock with the Grid Panel die, making sure to save all the smaller pieces it cut. I attached the grid piece to the front of my card with foam tape and then glued all of the smaller cut outs back in place. This gave the card some nice dimension.
I knew I wanted the birthday tiger as the center and then I began placing all of the Monkeys, leaves and vines around him. All of the Monkeys are attached to the grid piece and needed foam dots behind them for support. Most of the leaves are glued to the base layer though. I didn't have a sentiment I was happy stamping directly onto the rectangle insert so I cut a sentiment strip and just used a simple "Happy Birthday" sentiment from an MFT set.
I am terrible about finishing the inside of my cards so I thought I would stamp the cake on the inside and add the rest of the sentiment. I was so happy with myself for finishing it completely until..... I realized that the colors bled through to the back of the card. Clearly I didn't think this through completely lol. So to fix it I cut a little frame from a Lawn Fawn die set, inked it with the same Distress Inks and added it with 2 of the little monkeys to the back of the card to cover it up. It added a little bulk to the card, but it still turned out really cute.
Thank you for stopping by today and thanks again to Nichol Sporh for the awesome inspiration. BE sure to check out her blog and I'll see you again soon! XO ~ Amy
